New ESVAC report: antibiotic use continues to decline in animal husbandry in Europe.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) published the tenth ESVAC report (European Surveillance of Veterinary Antimicrobial Consumption) about the sale of antibacterial agents for veterinary use in 2018. Further efforts remain necessary, in Belgium as well.

New downward trend in the consumption of antibiotics in animal husbandry in Belgium

The new BelVet-SAC report which contains an overview of the use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine is available. The 2019 results confirm the trends of previous years with consumption down 7.8% for mg of active substance/kg of biomass compared to last year. Compared to the 2011 reference year, the use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine has decreased by 40.3%.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) published the eighth ESVAC (European Surveillance of Veterinary Antimicrobial Consumption) report on the sale of antibacterials for veterinary use in 2016.

A new BelVet-Sac report confirms the declining use of antibiotics in livestock farming. Two of the three reduction targets have already been achieved.

The results for 2017 confirm the trends of previous years with a reduced use of -7.4% mg active substance/kg biomass compared to last year. This is the biggest annual drop since 2011. Compared to the reference year 2011 it represents a total decrease of -25.9%.
