Hugues Malonne appointed new FAMHP Chief Executive Officer by the federal government
The federal government recently appointed Hugues Malonne, currently acting CEO, as the new head of the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP). Since 1 September 2023, he succeeds Xavier De Cuyper, who retired on the same date.
Hugues Malonne joined the FAMHP as Director General and successively headed the Post and Pre-Authorisation departments. He holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Masters in Management of Health and Care Institutions, both from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He began his career in academia before moving into the pharmaceutical industry in Belgium, China and then internationally. In 2017, he returned to Belgium to join the FAMHP. Throughout his career, he has maintained close links with the academic world and continues to teach at ULB and UNamur.
Hugues Malonne: "I am delighted and confident about this new opportunity. I can of course count on the excellent staff at our agency. I feel ready to take on the new challenges with them and in collaboration with all stakeholders. We will continue to provide a quality service to all so that we can continue to play our essential role in protecting public health."
