The European Commission has launched a call for tender to conclude single (consortium) framework contracts to reserve manufacturing capacities and obtain a priority right to manufacture vaccines in case of a future public health emergency. The project is called EU FAB.
EU FAB is part of the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) work plan. HERA has been set up to strengthen the European Union’s ability to rapidly respond to health crises, this includes ensuring that suitable vaccines are available to citizens of the European Union. This call for tender is an important step in that process.
The objective of EU FAB is to ensure that sufficient and agile manufacturing capacities for different vaccine types are kept operational and can be activated quickly in case of a public health emergency. EU FAB aims to cover manufacturing capacities for mRNA-based vaccines, vector-based vaccines and protein-based vaccines, from pharmaceutical companies and contract manufacturing organisations (CMOs) having manufacturing sites in the European Union or European Economic Area.
The call for tender is now open, requests to participate can be submitted until 3 June 2022.
